Prisons for Lucy Letby

Lucy Letby, the former neonatal nurse who murdered seven children and attempted to kill six more, has been sentenced to life imprisonment. She will be serving her sentence alongside some of Britain's most notorious serial killers and violent offenders. The most likely prisons where Letby will serve her sentence are HMP Bronzefield and HMP Low Newton.

HMP Bronzefield, located in Surrey, is a high-security prison for 527 Category A female inmates. It is one of only two such prisons in the country. Notable inmates at HMP Bronzefield include Sharon Carr, also known as The Devil's Daughter, who committed murder at the age of 12, and Rizlaine Boular, who was involved in an Isil-inspired suicide plot. The prison has faced criticism for its alleged lax regime, high staff turnover, and poor industrial relations. In 2019, there was an incident where a newborn baby died after the mother gave birth alone in her cell without medical supervision.

On the other hand, HMP Low Newton, located in Co Durham, is where Letby would be housed alongside Joanna Dennehy, who is also serving a whole life order for multiple murders. The prison is known for its proximity to HMP Frankland, which houses notorious criminals such as Ian Huntley, Wayne Couzens, and Levi Bellfield. Rose West, another prisoner serving a whole life order, was moved from HMP Bronzefield to Low Newton due to safety concerns.

Low Newton is considered a leader in changing the behavior of dangerous female offenders. It is home to the Primrose Project, which aims to treat women with severe personality disorders. The prison has faced challenges, including problems with a leaking roof and failing health and safety checks.
