Rolls-Royce Droptail Limited to Four Units
【Summary】Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division unveils the limited edition Droptail, with only four units available worldwide. The first unit, called La Rose Noire, is inspired by the Black Baccara rose and features a unique red paint finish. The Droptail has a new monocoque chassis and is powered by a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine. Its exterior design is distinct, and the interior is dominated by artwork made from black wood veneer.
The Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division has recently revealed its latest creation, the Droptail, at Monterey Car Week. This exclusive model is limited to just four units worldwide, with the first one showcased in California called La Rose Noire.
The inspiration behind the La Rose Noire Droptail comes from the Black Baccara, a French rose that holds sentimental value to the family who commissioned the car. Its unique red finish is designed to appear black in the shade but reveals a pearlescent red glow under the sun. Rolls-Royce achieved this special paint by combining two shades of red known as True Love and Mystery.
Unlike the Rolls-Royce Sweptail and Boat Tail, the Droptail features a new monocoque chassis made from steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber, rather than the Architecture of Luxury platform. However, it still boasts the marque's powerful 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, producing 593 hp and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque. Although the focus of this car is not on straight-line performance, it can reportedly reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
The Droptail's exterior design sets it apart from other Rolls-Royce models. It features a conventional front end with a large chrome grille and slim LED headlights with daytime running lights. The bodywork has a smooth and flowing design, tapering towards the rear end, which showcases distinctive taillights. Additionally, the Droptail is equipped with a stylish spoiler, an eye-catching decklid, and a removable carbon fiber roof panel with electrochromic panels.
Rolls-Royce describes the interior of the Droptail as the most remarkable element of the car. It took nearly two years to perfect and showcases complex artwork representing falling rose petals, crafted from 1,603 pieces of black wood veneer. The seats are adorned with a combination of True Love red and Mystery red leather. The center of the dashboard features a custom timepiece by Audemars Piguet, a 43 mm chronograph with red counters and a red inner bezel, featuring a flying chronograph. Interestingly, this timepiece can be detached with the press of a button and worn with a strap.
In addition to the car, the commissioning family also ordered a unique Rolls-Royce Champagne Chest to match. This chest can be opened with the press of a button and includes hand-blown crystal champagne flutes and a serving tray.
While Rolls-Royce has not disclosed the price for each of the four Droptail models, sources estimate it to be around $25 million.
