Rolls-Royce Monterey Unveils Limited Droptail

The Rolls-Royce Coachbuild division has revealed its latest creation, the Droptail, during Monterey Car Week. Limited to only four units worldwide, the car showcased in California is the first of the four and is called La Rose Noire.

The La Rose Noire Droptail draws inspiration from the Black Baccara, a French rose cherished by the family who commissioned the vehicle. It boasts a unique red finish that appears almost black in the shade but has a pearlescent red glow under the sunlight. Rolls-Royce achieved this special paint by combining two shades of red named True Love and Mystery.

Unlike the Sweptail and Boat Tail, the Droptail does not share the Architecture of Luxury platform with the Cullinan, Ghost, and Phantom. Instead, it features a new monocoque chassis made from steel, aluminum, and carbon fiber. However, it does share the same powerful 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, producing 593 hp and 620 lb-ft (840 Nm) of torque. Although straight-line performance is not the main focus of this car, it can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in under 5.0 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

The Droptail stands out with its unique exterior design. The front end showcases a large chrome grille and slim LED headlights with daytime running lights. The bodywork features a smooth and flowing design along the sides, leading to a rear end with distinctive taillights. Rolls-Royce has also equipped the Droptail with a stylish spoiler and an eye-catching decklid. Additionally, the car includes a removable roof panel made from carbon fiber with electrochromic panels.

According to Rolls-Royce, the interior is the most remarkable aspect of the Droptail. It took nearly two years to perfect and is dominated by intricate artwork representing falling rose petals, crafted from 1,603 pieces of black wood veneer. The seats are adorned with a combination of True Love red and Mystery red leather. In the center of the dashboard sits a custom timepiece by Audemars Piguet, featuring red counters and a flying chronograph. Interestingly, the timepiece can be detached at the press of a button and worn with a strap.

In addition to the car, the commissioning family also ordered a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce Champagne Chest to match. This chest can be opened with the press of a button and includes hand-blown crystal champagne flutes and a serving tray.

While Rolls-Royce has not disclosed the price of each Droptail model, sources estimate it to be around $25 million per unit.
