Chinese start-up Small Sports Car (SSC) has introduced the SC-01, an electric two-seat coupé that is being touted as China's "national sports car." Priced at approximately ¥300,000 or £39,000 in the UK, the sleek EV is the company's inaugural car and is set to hit the market later this year.
The SC-01 measures 4085mm in length, 1820mm in width, and 1162mm in height, weighing in at 1300kg. This puts it in a similar size range as the petrol-engined Alpine A110 and Audi TT. The car features a mid-mounted battery located behind the driver cabin, with electric motors positioned at the front and rear. With a total power output of 429bhp, it can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.9 seconds, promising an exhilarating driving experience.
SSC claims that the positioning of the battery not only aids in weight distribution but also brings the driver closer to the ground, resulting in reduced height and wind resistance for improved performance. The SC-01 boasts a range of 310 miles (500km) according to the NEDC test cycle, though figures using the WLTP system have not been disclosed.
Beneath its exterior, the SC-01 features a spaceframe chassis with horizontal, pushrod-driven shock absorbers. SSC asserts that this design contributes to enhanced rigidity while maintaining a compact size.
While the interior of the SC-01 has yet to be revealed, SSC describes it as "minimalist," foregoing an infotainment screen in favor of traditional switches and buttons for control.
