Skoda reveals upgraded Kodiaq

The all-new generation of the Skoda Kodiaq has arrived, much to the delight of fans of the Czech company's largest SUV. Since 2016, Skoda has sold nearly 842,000 Kodiaq vehicles worldwide, making it a popular choice among SUV enthusiasts.

The new Kodiaq comes with several exciting features that set it apart from its predecessor. It offers LED Matrix headlights and a head-up display (HUD) for the driver, both of which are firsts for the Kodiaq line. Additionally, one of the petrol engines now comes with 48-volt mild-hybrid (48V MHEV) fuel-saving technology. However, the most significant addition is the plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version, known as the Kodiaq iV.

The Kodiaq iV PHEV is equipped with a 150hp 1.5 TSI turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 25.7kWh battery pack. The combined output of this drivetrain is 204hp, making it the most powerful option in the new Kodiaq family. The Kodiaq iV can reportedly travel over 62 miles on electric power alone and can be charged at 50kW DC, allowing for a quick recharge on public chargers.

Unlike most PHEVs, the Kodiaq iV can be charged using a DC rapid connection, in addition to slower AC charging. This means the battery pack can be fully replenished in approximately half an hour when using a public charger. The Kodiaq iV also features an 11kW onboard charger for faster charging with a wallbox at home.

In terms of drivetrain choices, the new Kodiaq offers a 1.5 TSI MHEV with 150hp, a more powerful 2.0 TSI petrol with 204hp, and both 150hp and 193hp variants of the 2.0 TDI diesel engine. The 150hp models are front-wheel drive, while the higher-output TSI and TDI models come with four-wheel drive as standard. All new Kodiaq models come with a DSG twin-clutch automatic transmission.

Details on performance and economy for these engines have not been released yet, but they are expected to be similar to the previous Kodiaq models. The Kodiaq iV PHEV is expected to have CO2 emissions well below 50g/km, thanks to its large battery pack.

The exterior of the new Kodiaq features a gentle evolution of its predecessor's design, with slight increases in length and reduced width and height. The interior showcases Skoda's new higher-tech interface, including a 13-inch infotainment touchscreen and a ten-inch Virtual Cockpit instrument cluster. Sustainable and recycled materials have been used extensively in the cabin finishing. The Kodiaq also offers a range of alloy wheels and a new body color called Bronx Gold.

Overall, the new Skoda Kodiaq offers exciting updates and improvements, making it a compelling choice in the SUV market. With its advanced technology, spacious interior, and various drivetrain options, the Kodiaq provides a well-rounded driving experience for SUV enthusiasts.
