Stellantis grants e-LCVs in the UK

The company Stellantis is offering UK customers a grant of £2,500 ($3,044) towards the cost of small and medium electric vans. In addition to the grant, customers will also receive free wall-box charging installation and £400 charging credit. This means that customers could enjoy total savings of up to £7,500 per van, when combined with the UK government's existing grants for electric light commercial vehicles.

Tony Lewis, LCV Director of Stellantis UK, stated that the Stellantis e-LCV Grant aims to provide a comprehensive package for electric van drivers, making it more attractive for fleets and businesses looking to go electric.

Aside from the grant for electric vans, Stellantis also offers a grant of £3,000 on Fiat 500e vehicles in the UK. However, there is no mention of grants for other non-commercial vehicles.

As a result of the merger between the PSA group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Stellantis now owns Vauxhall, Citroen Fiat Professional, and Peugeot. This means that various electric stock vehicle models from these brands will be eligible for the grant. Stellantis expects a high uptake of the grant, which could increase its share of the UK e-LCV market.

According to Stellantis, their electric vans currently hold a significant share of the UK market, accounting for 54.3% of all electric vans sold in the country so far this year. The Vauxhall Vivaro Electric alone makes up a quarter of all e-LCVs sold in the UK since the beginning of 2023.

In September 2023, Rishi Sunak announced a delay in the ban on the sale of new internal combustion engine cars and vans until 2035. Despite this delay potentially affecting the EV market, Stellantis does not expect any change in their market position, as Vauxhall is already a leader in the electric van market.

According to GlobalData's Global Sector Overview & Forecast for Electrified Vehicles, Stellantis accounted for 6.9% of the global electrified market in 2022 and is the leading manufacturer in Europe. The current electrified vehicle market is estimated at 7.5 million units in 2023, with a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 54% between 2018 and 2023.

Recent statistics from Zapmap show that the number of high-power charging hubs in the UK has more than doubled since September 2022. This indicates that the EV charging infrastructure is expanding to support the needs of e-LCV owners.
