Ford unveils latest campervan model

The Ford Transit Custom Nugget campervan is built on an updated chassis with a sophisticated independent rear suspension system. This not only provides a more car-like driving experience but also allows for the option of all-wheel drive, making it suitable for off-road conditions. The interior features Ford's new 13-inch SYNC 4 infotainment system and the latest driver assistance technology.

In addition to the diesel version, Ford will also offer a plug-in hybrid model of the Nugget. This hybrid model combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. The power unit produces 228bhp, but specific efficiency, range, and performance figures have yet to be confirmed.

The Nugget campervan will be available with Ford's EcoBlue diesel engine and an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine produces 168bhp and is available with both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in Spring 2024.

The Ford Transit Custom Nugget campervan is a collaboration between Ford and German campervan specialist Westfalia. The interior has been designed to meet the needs of customers, with a modular central space that functions as cooking, seating, and sleeping areas. The kitchen features a new L-shaped layout with a fridge, induction hob, and sink. The cabinets now have damped closing mechanisms to reduce noise while driving.

The campervan offers flexible seating options, with the front seats able to rotate 180-degrees and a three-wide second row that allows for a total of five passengers to travel. The tilting Dormer roof has a self-folding fabric section and the option to improve headroom above the kitchen section. There is also a solar roof option for off-grid electricity.

For connectivity, the campervan offers features like a 5G modem for remote WiFi and a touchscreen control panel for on-board functions. Prices and specifications have yet to be confirmed, but the Nugget will be available to order from Ford showrooms in Autumn, with deliveries starting in Spring 2024. Plug-in hybrid models will be introduced in the following year.

While the Ford Transit Custom Nugget is an exciting new campervan, it's not the only option available. Check out the upcoming Volkswagen California for another great choice.
