Toyota bZ4X test

The Toyota bZ4X is a new electric SUV that competes with models like the Nissan Ariya, Skoda Enyaq iV, and Tesla Model Y. It is offered in both front-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive versions, with the latter having an additional electric motor for the rear wheels and more power. The bZ4X has a 64kWh battery capacity, which is slightly smaller than its rivals. The entry-level FWD variant has an official range of 317 miles, while the top-spec AWD Vision model, which I have chosen, has a range of 259 miles.

Despite the modest range, Toyota is actively developing electric models with significantly longer ranges. However, for now, the bZ4X is their first battery-powered EV for Europe. As luck would have it, I will be getting one as my next company car.

Although the bZ4X's range may not be as impressive as some similarly priced competitors that can travel over 300 miles, I am confident it will be sufficient for my daily driving needs and occasional long trips. I primarily charge my vehicle overnight at home, but if needed, I can utilize a public rapid charger that can provide a 10-80% charge in around 30 minutes at the bZ4X's peak rate of 150kW.

In the range-topping Vision trim, my bZ4X is well-equipped with features such as heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, a foot-operated electric tailgate, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic glass roof. The option to exclude the glass roof is available, saving £540. The seats come upholstered in light grey synthetic leather, although it seems that black is currently the only color option.
