Toyota's FT-Se concept brings an electric MR2 or Celica successor closer to being produced.
【Summary】Toyota will unveil the FT-Se electric sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show, signaling a potential launch of an electric successor to the MR2 and Celica models. The FT-Se concept shares design elements with a previous electric sports car concept and features a similar design to the Toyota Supra. The interior includes a steering yoke and smartphone-style displays. The production viability of the cockpit design is uncertain.
Toyota is set to reveal a new electric sports car concept called the FT-Se at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. This suggests that the brand is finally preparing to launch a zero-emissions successor to its popular models like the MR2 and Celica.
In 2021, Toyota unveiled 11 EV concepts, including an unnamed electric sports car that garnered a lot of attention. The new teaser images of the FT-Se concept indicate that it will be an evolution of the original concept's design. The two share similar proportions, with a short bonnet, pronounced rear haunches, and angular body lines.
The FT-Se will also feature a tapered rear windscreen and a small ducktail spoiler, reminiscent of the latest generation Toyota Supra. The unique arching tail-lights that sit under the rear spoiler are a new design element.
Inside the FT-Se, there will be a steering yoke flanked by two small smartphone-style displays. Additionally, a larger digital driver's display will be recessed deep into the dashboard, providing good visibility of the road ahead. Toyota claims that this next-gen cockpit design offers intuitive controls and a more immersive driving experience, although it remains uncertain how much of it will make it to production.
