Unique Prototype: Racecar Looks, $22k

Track day enthusiasts often gravitate towards small manufacturers like Caterham, Radical, Dallara, BAC, Ariel, or Ginetta. However, in addition to these well-known names, there are also custom-made vehicles that have the appearance and performance of racecars. One such example is the unnamed prototype featured in the picture, which was meticulously handbuilt using Audi parts.

Externally, this vehicle is designed to resemble the iconic Group C racecars of the 1980s and 1990s. It boasts a low and wide stance, a droplet-shaped canopy, and a central driving position. The absence of mirrors and license plates suggests that this car is intended solely for the track, making it unsuitable for road use.

Notable features of this prototype include a prominent splitter, wide shoulders, NACA-style air ducts, side exhausts, a roof scoop, a large rear wing, and wide rear tires. These design elements clearly convey its track-focused capabilities, although it remains uncertain whether the vehicle has any direct motorsport lineage. The owner claims that the prototype incorporates numerous Audi parts, although specific details regarding the underlying structure and specifications are not provided. Based on its appearance, it is possible that the model is built on a custom chassis rather than utilizing the architecture of an existing vehicle.

Regarding the powertrain, this prototype is equipped with a rear-mounted V6 engine sourced from the first-generation Audi A4. While the bi-turbo 2.7-liter V6 from the original RS4 would have been the most suitable choice for this type of build, the prototype instead features the 2.8-liter unit found in a lesser variant. This engine produces up to 190 horsepower (193 PS / 142 kW), which is still a considerable amount of power for a lightweight vehicle. Additionally, it can be easily tuned for even more performance. Despite requiring some "minor works," the owner claims that the prototype is in working condition.

This unique vehicle is currently located in Vásárosnamény, Hungary, and was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. It was recently shared in the Unique Cars For Sale 3.0 Group, with an asking price of €20,000 ($21,840). Although this price makes it more affordable compared to most track-day toys, it is worth noting that a used Mazda MX-5 could be purchased and modified for a significantly lower cost. Unfortunately, the listing is no longer available, suggesting that someone may have already purchased this distinctive prototype.
