Unique Prototype With Racecar Looks Sold for $22k

Track day enthusiasts often gravitate towards small manufacturers like Caterham, Radical, Dallara, BAC, Ariel, or Ginetta. However, there are also custom-made vehicles with racecar aesthetics and track-focused setups that deserve attention. One such example is an unnamed prototype that was meticulously handbuilt using Audi parts.

From the exterior, this vehicle is designed to resemble the iconic Group C racecars from the '80s and '90s. It boasts a low and wide stance, a sleek droplet-shaped canopy, and a central driving position. The absence of mirrors and license plates indicates that this is a track-only machine, not intended for regular road use.

Various features on the prototype, including a prominent splitter, wide shoulders, NACA-style air ducts, side exhausts, roof scoop, large rear wing, and wide rear tires, all suggest its track prowess. However, it remains unclear if this build has any direct motorsport lineage. The owner mentions the use of numerous Audi parts, but specific details about the underpinnings and specifications are not provided. It appears that this model might be based on a custom chassis rather than utilizing an existing vehicle platform.

Regarding the powertrain, the rear-mounted V6 engine is sourced from the first-generation Audi A4. While the ideal choice for such a build would be the bi-turbo 2.7-liter V6 from the original RS4, the prototype is equipped with a 2.8-liter unit taken from a lesser variant. This engine produces up to 190 horsepower (193 PS / 142 kW), which is still considerable power for a lightweight vehicle. Additionally, it can be easily tuned for even more performance. The owner claims that the prototype is in working condition, despite needing some minor work.

This unique vehicle is currently located in Vásárosnamény, Hungary, and was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. It was recently shared in the Unique Cars For Sale 3.0 Group, with an asking price of €20,000 ($21,840). Although this price makes it more affordable than many other track-day toys, it is worth noting that a used Mazda MX-5 could be purchased and modified for a significantly lower cost. Unfortunately, the listing is no longer available, suggesting that someone may have already purchased this distinctive prototype.
