The Volkswagen ID 7 is set to hit the market in January 2024 with a price tag of £55,570, making it more expensive than its competitors such as the Hyundai Ioniq 6, BMW i4, Polestar 2, and Tesla Model 3.

The Pro Launch Edition of the ID 7 comes with several standard features, including 19-inch alloys, a 15-inch infotainment system, and heated front seats. Additionally, buyers will receive a free home wall charger and £750 in public charging credits.

While pricing for other models has not yet been announced, it is expected that Volkswagen will offer cheaper trim levels in the future.

Earlier this year, Volkswagen unveiled the ID 7 as its first electric saloon. It will directly compete with the Tesla Model 3, boasting a brand-new infotainment software, excellent long-distance driving capabilities, and a range of up to 435 miles.

The regular ID 7 will be launched in Europe and China this autumn, followed by its release in the US in 2024.

The ID 7 will be available with two battery options. The first is a 77kWh pack, which is already used in existing ID models, offering a range of 382 miles and 170kW charging. The second option is a new 86kWh unit that allows for a range of 435 miles and faster charging at up to 200kW. In its fastest Pro S guise, the ID 7 can achieve a 0-62mph time of around 6.0 seconds.

With a length of nearly five meters and a wheelbase of around three meters, the ID 7 is larger than the Volkswagen Passat and comparable in size to the Phaeton luxury saloon. The cabin of the ID 7 prioritizes practicality while also offering luxurious features such as a panoramic roof, optional massage seats, an augmented reality head-up display, interior ambient lighting with various color options, and a 15.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with an updated version of Volkswagen's MIB software platform. The boot space of the ID 7 is 532 liters, surpassing both the BMW i4 with 470 liters and the Tesla Model 3 with 425 liters.

Volkswagen has placed a strong emphasis on user-friendliness with its new infotainment platform, which is also shared with the facelifted ID 3. The touchscreen includes a new direct-access bar for quick access to core functions, the main menu can be opened without closing any in-use app, the home screen can be customized with icons for the driver's most frequently used apps, and the main climate controls are conveniently located at the bottom of the screen to avoid distractions while driving.
