A vintage 1974 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Super Duty 455 recently sold for a whopping $89,296 at an auction on the Hagerty Marketplace. This particular car was known for its Buccaneer Red paint and had just under 54,000 miles on it. It also had a meticulously detailed restoration and was a limited release, with only 943 models produced in 1974.

In terms of performance, the Super Duty 455 variant of the Firebird was significantly different from the standard model. It was launched in 1974 and featured a V8 engine with 455 cubic inches of displacement. The engine was hand-assembled and incorporated elements from Pontiac's NASCAR engine, such as heavy-duty connecting rods, a new block, and modified crankshaft and heads. This resulted in a reported 310 horsepower.

The recent sale of this model attracted a lot of attention, with over 21,000 views and 39 bids on Hagerty's platform. According to Hagerty's valuation metrics, a similar car in good condition would typically sell for around $85,700. However, a car in "concours condition" could fetch as much as $103,000.

Unfortunately, Pontiac as a brand met its end in 2002 due to declining sales and reduced market share in sports coupes.
