Land Rover has introduced the 2023 Defender 130, a larger version of its popular Defender SUV. This new model raises the question of whether it is a necessary addition to the lineup or if it offers versatility that sets it apart from its counterparts.

The exterior design of the Defender 130 closely resembles that of the other Defender models. However, its extra length is immediately noticeable when viewed from the side. Despite this, the added length enhances the overall presence of the vehicle, giving it a commanding presence on the road.

Inside the cabin, the Defender 130 shares many similarities with its smaller siblings. The dashboard design remains skeletal, robust, and utilitarian, with ample grab handles and useful shelves. The standout feature is the large touchscreen display and the array of buttons below it, which control various functions such as temperature and off-road settings. The seats are comfortable, but the interior materials have a more van-like feel, prioritizing durability over luxury. However, overall ergonomics and technology have improved compared to older Defender models.

Practicality is a key selling point of the Defender 130. It can comfortably seat up to eight people, with the extra seats folding into the boot floor. However, the seats do not fold completely flat, creating an inconvenient step when loading larger items. However, even the base model comes well-equipped with features such as leather upholstery, a Meridian sound system, heated seats, and satellite navigation.

In conclusion, the Land Rover Defender 130 offers additional space and practicality for those who need it. However, for those who do not require the extra capacity, the smaller Defender 110 may offer better performance and value for money.
