2023 Lexus RZ Falls Just Shy of a Home Run

Lexus appears to be less enthusiastic about the transition to battery-powered electric vehicles compared to other brands. This sentiment is evident in their first electric vehicle, the Lexus RZ, which shares the e-TNGA platform with the battery-electric Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. While the RZ shares design elements with the Lexus RX, it is smaller and falls into the compact class. With a robust 308 horsepower, the RZ offers ample power, but its 71.4-kilowatt-hour battery only provides a driving range of at least 196 miles, with a maximum of 220 miles.

In 2023, this range may not be considered substantial. However, it is important to note that many electric vehicle drivers often carry the burden of larger batteries than necessary. Despite this, there are certain concerns that give us pause when recommending the RZ. Nonetheless, the vehicle does have several advantages, such as its delightful ride quality and impressive interior found in both trim levels. Depending on your needs and preferences, the Lexus RZ could still be the right electric vehicle for you.
