If you were hesitant about the Maeving RM1 due to its 45mph top speed, there's good news for you. The new RM1S version has arrived, featuring a more powerful hub motor that produces 14.1bhp compared to the standard RM1's 5.9bhp. As a result, the minimum age requirement to ride this bike has increased to 17 years old, but it still falls within the limit for riders with L-plates after completing a CBT.

The increased power has a significant impact on performance, as the RM1S can now reach a top speed of 65mph, making it a much more versatile machine. The range remains the same at 80 miles, but Maeving has equipped the bike with battery packs that are 30% larger.

Interestingly, you have the option to run the bike with just one of the two battery packs, which will halve the range to a still respectable 40 miles. The batteries can be charged while on the bike or removed and charged elsewhere using the optional battery dock. Charging both packs from empty to 80% takes 3.5 hours, while charging to 100% takes 4.5 hours.

Maeving developed the RM1S based on customer feedback requesting more power and speed. The bike's design remains largely unchanged, with its long wheelbase, wire wheels, and a prominent bobber-style seat. However, the central housings for the batteries are slightly larger, and a more robust front brake has been added, featuring a 300mm disc and a three-piston caliper. Additionally, Maeving has introduced four new special edition liveries for the RM1S.

Co-founder Will Stirrup expressed his thoughts on the new bike, stating, "The RM1S is the motorcycle that many riders have repeatedly asked us to create—a zero-emissions bike that retains the RM1's appearance but is capable of highway speeds. We've worked diligently to maintain everything that has made the RM1 popular while delivering improved performance for a wider range of use cases. For riders who primarily stay within inner city limits, the original Maeving RM1 will remain the perfect motorcycle. Adding the RM1S to our collection offers an electric motorcycle for those who need to cover larger distances at higher speeds."

The RM1S is priced at £7,495, compared to £5,999 for the RM1. Deliveries are set to begin in March 2024.
