The all-new Porsche Cayenne has arrived in the UK, offering a larger, more efficient, and more stylish design compared to its predecessor. Despite its longer wheelbase, the new Cayenne appears smaller thanks to its taut body and sharper front end.

The Cayenne is Porsche's best-selling model, generating enough revenue to support limited-run specials like the GT2 RS. The top-spec Turbo variant, which we have driven, is now the fastest 4x4 in the world.

At first glance, the Cayenne Turbo may seem expensive, unnecessarily fast, and irrelevant to most buyers. However, a closer look reveals the extraordinary achievements of Porsche with this car. It offers the benefits of a full-size 4x4, including a comfortable ride, elevated seating position, and spacious interior. But that's not all - the Turbo variant is as fast as a 911 Carrera 4S in a straight line and nearly as quick through corners. Furthermore, it weighs 185kg less than the previous model and boasts a 31% improvement in fuel economy.

The interior of the Cayenne has undergone significant changes, with a rising centre console reminiscent of the Panamera. The build quality is exceptional, featuring sturdy metal and luxurious leather surfaces.

In line with Porsche's Intelligent Performance mantra, the new Cayenne is 185kg lighter and comes standard with stop-start technology. This results in a 31% increase in fuel economy and a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

Despite the weight reduction, the 4.8-litre twin-turbo engine still delivers the same 493bhp output. The Cayenne Turbo can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds, accompanied by a subtle growl from its quad exhausts.

Behind the wheel, the Cayenne provides a composed and comfortable driving experience. The precise steering, aided by features like Porsche's Dynamic Chassis Control and Torque Vectoring Plus, allows for confident cornering. The Cayenne handles like a sports car, despite its SUV proportions.

In comparison to its rivals, such as the Range Rover, the Cayenne stands out for its performance and handling. While the Range Rover offers ultimate luxury and comfort, it cannot match the Cayenne's outright performance.
