Corvette-Based Sports Car Unveiled by New DeLorean

The daughter of John Z DeLorean, Kathryn DeLorean, has announced that DeLorean Next Generation Motors (DNG) will be building a new model that pays homage to her father's legacy. In addition to this special car, DNG will also produce a more affordable supercar based on the C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette.

DNG Motors first gained attention a year ago when it revealed plans for its first model, the Model JZD. It is important to note that DNG is separate from the DeLorean company that is developing an all-electric performance car called the Alpha5. Kathryn DeLorean is leading DNG and has taken a different approach to honoring her father's memory.

The entry-level model from DNG will be a mid-engined supercar based on the Corvette. Although the name for this model has not been decided yet, it will be cheaper and more accessible than the Model JZD. The C8 Corvette is an ideal base for this car because it is not only affordable but also because John Z. DeLorean spent a significant amount of time working at GM, including serving as the head of Chevrolet where he advocated for a mid-engine Corvette.

While the development of this model is still in its early stages, Kathryn DeLorean has revealed that DNG Motors plans to replace the Corvette's body with its own design that will include gullwing doors, similar to the original DMC-12. The details regarding changes under the hood are still unclear, but DNG will collaborate with various aftermarket performance specialists.

Ángel Guerra has created several renderings of the proposed model, but it is uncertain how closely the production car will resemble these designs. According to Kathryn, building a Corvette-based DeLorean will allow her to fulfill her father's dream. She stated, "I'm building him his dream car."

The Model JZD will be the flagship model in DNG's lineup. It will be a limited edition, hand-built car that is expected to cost significantly more than the Alpha5 from the other DeLorean company. Only 42 examples of the Model JZD will be produced, and it will also feature gullwing doors.
