An Arkansas man, known as Nathaniel, recently experienced heartbreak when his beloved car, a 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo named Chase, was written off. Nathaniel gained attention over a decade ago when his unusual relationship with his car was featured on an episode of TLC's 'My Strange Addiction'. In the episode, he expressed his love for the car by engaging in intimate acts with its machinery. However, Nathaniel revealed in an update shared by TLC's Instagram that their love eventually faded.
Since the loss of Chase, Nathaniel has tried to move on with several new cars. However, he admitted that none of them could replace his soulmate. He described his current fling as more of a "friends with benefits" situation. Nathaniel expressed his devastation over the loss of Chase, stating that he still thinks about the car every day and feels that it deserved better.
Nathaniel's attraction to objects, known as objectophilia or objectum-sexuality, is a rare condition. Other people with this condition have been attracted to various objects, including a Boeing-737 plane and a bundle of balloons. Nathaniel explained that he was drawn to Chase because he felt a connection and believed that its parts fit perfectly. Losing Chase in the accident during a routine checkup left him heartbroken.
To cope with the loss, Nathaniel has turned his bedroom into a shrine for Chase. The car's bumper has become the headboard of his bed, and he has adorned the room with pictures of the two of them together. Nathaniel described the bedroom as a special place where he can feel close to his former partner.
Although Nathaniel still thinks about Chase, he has moved on with other cars. He introduced his new loves, including a Lexus ES330 named Lex, an SUV named Jet, a black sedan named Jason, and a luxurious sedan named Jordan. Nathaniel expressed affection for each car and even admitted to being intimate with them. Despite having an expanding "family" of cars, Nathaniel assured that none of them feel jealous of each other.
