Electric Orca Delivery Commences
【Summary】Taiga Motors has started delivering a more affordable version of its electric personal watercraft, the Orca. The initial model, Orca Carbon, was priced at $26,500, but the new Orca Performance is available for $19,490. Both models have a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor, offering around 2 hours of riding on a single charge. The Performance model can be charged in 3.5 hours with the onboard charger, or in just 40 minutes with the optional CCS charging port.
Last July, Taiga Motors introduced its first electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca. The initial model, called the "Carbon," was priced at $26,500 and featured a carbon fiber shell that enhanced both the design and weight of the PWC.
While the Orca Carbon was an intriguing product, its high price tag was a significant drawback compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs, which typically cost around $15,000. Choosing the Orca over an ICE-powered PWC meant paying a premium.
However, the Orca had the distinction of being the first electric personal watercraft on the market, similar to the original Tesla Roadster. Some buyers were willing to pay the premium for the novelty of owning the first of its kind. Nevertheless, the Orca is now becoming more affordable.
As planned, Taiga now offers the Orca Performance model at a price of $19,490. The Performance model shares the same propulsion system as the Carbon, with a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor. This allows for approximately 2 hours of riding time on a single charge, covering a distance of about 27 miles.
When the battery is depleted, the Orca comes with a 6.6kW onboard charger, providing a charge time of three and a half hours. For an additional $650, customers can opt for an onboard CCS charging port, which reduces the zero to eighty percent charge time to just forty minutes.
In addition to the Performance model, Taiga plans to release a Sport variant with a lower output of 90 horsepower, starting at $17,490.
Despite the introduction of the Performance and Sport models, Taiga will continue production of the Carbon model. Customers who choose the Carbon can opt for the fast charge package and different seat and body colors at no additional cost.
