Be.EV, a charge point operator, has revealed its plans to install thousands of new electric vehicle (EV) charge points throughout the UK. The company is actively seeking dwell sites such as retail parks, pubs, and car parks, as well as freehold and leasehold sites in major Midlands cities including Birmingham, Derby, and Nottingham. With £110 million in funding from Octopus Energy Generation, Be.EV aims to accelerate the UK's EV revolution and enhance communities by providing reliable charging infrastructure across the country.

FHP, a leading commercial property agent, has been appointed to identify new sites in the Midlands for EV charging. Doug Tweedie, FHP director and head of Birmingham office, stated that the company is considering various city center and community locations that will improve accessibility to charging facilities for local residents. The focus will primarily be on retail parks, pubs, and new forecourts, ranging from 0.2 acres and above, all powered by renewable energy sourced from Octopus Energy.

Tweedie highlighted the importance of a high-quality charging experience for mass EV adoption, emphasizing that the current lack of reliable and accessible charging locations hinders progress. With Be.EV's secure funding and rapidly expanding charging network, boasting an operational availability rate of 99.6%, FHP is excited to collaborate in expanding the community-centered public EV charging network in the Midlands, ultimately inspiring more people to switch to electric vehicles.

Be.EV is actively engaging with commercial landlords and private landowners, some of whom were previously unaware that their sites could be repurposed for EV charging. Tweedie explained that there are numerous vacant sites in the region that are financially unviable to develop or owners are uncertain about their potential use. These sites, such as petrol stations, supermarkets, or drive-thru outlets, which benefit from high traffic, present great opportunities for EV charging infrastructure. Be.EV takes on the responsibility of fully funding, managing, and providing power access for each development, relieving the landowners of any significant burdens.

Asif Ghafoor, CEO and co-founder of Be.EV, expressed his delight in partnering with FHP to bring EV charging infrastructure to cities across the Midlands. Ghafoor commended FHP's understanding of the value of reliable and high-quality charging facilities in accessible and convenient locations, positioning them at the forefront of the EV charging revolution. He also highlighted the benefits of EV charging in driving footfall to sites and creating sustainable income streams for commercial landlords and landowners. Together with FHP, property owners in Birmingham, Nottingham, and beyond can contribute to the UK's EV transition while simultaneously reducing air pollution. Be.EV and FHP are eager to commence their collaboration and work together on future projects.
