Ford F-150 Lobo: Street Performance Upgrade

High-performance pickups designed for the road rather than off-roading have been scarce lately, but Ford may be looking to change that. According to a new report, the company is working on a variant of the F-150 called Lobo that aims to bring back the excitement of a hot rod with a cargo box.

This isn't the first time Ford has used the Lobo name. In the past, it has been used for the F-150 sold in the Mexican market. Now, it seems Ford is planning to use the name for the electric variant of the F-150, following in the footsteps of the Lightning models from the past.

According to inside sources, the F-150 Lobo will be a standalone trim level, similar to the Raptor, rather than just an appearance package. It will have a lowered suspension system and an aggressive exterior design, giving it a unique look compared to other F-150 models. However, specific details such as available cab configurations have not been revealed.

While it's still too early to know for sure, many are speculating that the F-150 Lobo will have a powerful engine to match its muscular appearance. The base V6 engine is not expected, with possibilities including the 5.0-liter V8 or the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 found in the entry-level F-150 Raptor.

One question that remains unanswered is whether the F-150 Lobo will be rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive. In the past, the Lightning models were rear-wheel-drive, but it's unclear if Ford will stick to that formula for the new Lobo.

Ford has confirmed that the 2024 F-150 will be unveiled at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show, but it has not commented on the Lobo rumors. If the reports are accurate, we can expect to learn more about the F-150 Lobo and possibly see it in person at the show. Sales are expected to begin shortly after the unveiling.
