Ford Tourneo Custom 2023: A Fresh Review
【Summary】The new Ford Tourneo Custom 2023 is a significant improvement over its predecessor and is positioned as the spiritual successor to Ford's S-MAX and Galaxy models. Despite its van roots, the Tourneo Custom hides them well and offers ample cabin space and a range of features even in its entry-level models. The new version will be available with up to nine seats and will eventually have PHEV and electric options.
Ford is making efforts to increase the popularity of its Tourneo brand, and the latest Custom model is set to significantly raise its profile. This vehicle effectively conceals its van origins and can be seen as the spiritual successor to Ford's S-MAX and Galaxy models. Despite the relatively high prices, even the entry-level models offer a generous amount of equipment and excellent cabin space.
In the past, passenger-carrying versions of the Ford Transit were essentially vans with seats. However, the Tourneo brand has been working to change that perception. The previous generation Tourneo Custom was a step in the right direction for Ford to compete with the Volkswagen Caravelle and Mercedes V-Class, and the all-new model is even better.
The latest version of the Tourneo Custom is being launched simultaneously with the new Transit Custom, which we have previously discussed as a van that is more car-like to drive than ever before. This is a promising sign for the new passenger variant, which will offer seating for up to nine people, depending on the chosen specification.
While there are plans for plug-in hybrid and electric versions in 2024, the current Tourneo Custom is only available with diesel power. In this review, we will be testing the 168bhp version with Ford's eight-speed automatic gearbox.
