Ford has unveiled the new Ford Transit Custom Nugget, a campervan built in collaboration with German campervan specialist Westfalia. The new Nugget features a redesigned interior, with a modular cabin layout that allows for easy movement and access to cooking, seating, and sleeping areas. The campervan also boasts a sleeker design compared to the outgoing model, with thinner headlights and a new grille featuring a light bar running across the top.

The front seats of the Transit Custom Nugget can swivel around to face the rear when parked, maximizing the use of interior space. There is also a second row that provides three additional seats, bringing the total seating capacity to five when on the move. The cabin offers two double bed spaces, one created by folding down the rear seating area and the other accessible by popping up the Dormer roof. The roof section also features a foldable mattress to increase headroom over the kitchen area when needed.

In addition to its practical features, the Transit Custom Nugget comes equipped with high-tech amenities. These include a 5G modem for WiFi access, a seven-inch infotainment touchscreen for controlling ambient lighting and onboard heating, and providing information on water and battery levels. The campervan also offers optional features such as a solar panel on the roof for off-grid charging.

The Ford Transit Custom Nugget will be available with different powertrain options. The range will kick off with a 2.0-litre EcoBlue turbocharged diesel engine with 168bhp and an eight-speed automatic gearbox, available in front or all-wheel drive. There will also be a plug-in hybrid option, featuring a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with an electric motor and an 11.8kWh battery. However, specific range and performance figures for the plug-in hybrid version have yet to be confirmed.

Ford has updated the Transit Custom's chassis with more sophisticated independent rear suspension, promising a more car-like driving experience. The campervan will also offer driver assistance technologies such as active cruise control and a 360-degree camera for improved visibility when parking. The all-wheel drive option will enhance the vehicle's capability in light off-roading conditions.

The diesel version of the Ford Transit Custom Nugget will go on sale in Autumn 2023, with deliveries expected in spring 2024. The plug-in hybrid model will be available a year later. Pricing details have not been announced yet, but the entry-level diesel models are expected to start from over £60,000.
