Spanish police have arrested five French tourists and a Swiss holidaymaker on suspicion of sexually assaulting the 18-year-old at a hotel known for its party atmosphere. The assault is said to have occurred at dawn on Monday at the hotel in the town on the holiday island of Mallorca, which is famous for its lively parties and affordable alcohol.

The security guard discovered the young woman crying on the floor in the hotel's lobby around 5 am on Monday, 400 yards from Magaluf's party strip. She received immediate medical attention and counseling, and a medic found grip marks on her arms. The suspects, all over 20 years old, were detained shortly after the incident and were seen being escorted into the court building in Palma in handcuffs. The investigation includes inspecting the room where the assault occurred and reviewing CCTV footage of the hotel entrance. Police have also reported the existence of video clips of the alleged rape on at least one of the suspects' phones.

A judge has ordered the six men to be held in custody while the investigation continues. In addition, earlier this month, a 21-year-old British woman claimed she was raped by an Israeli man and filmed without her consent by his friends in Athens. Other cases involving British tourists being raped or sexually assaulted have also been reported in Greece and Portugal.
