A hotel security guard in Magaluf has described finding a young British woman who was allegedly gang raped by six men. Spanish police have arrested five French tourists and a Swiss holidaymaker on suspicion of sexually assaulting the 18-year-old at a hotel known for its party atmosphere. The assault is said to have occurred at dawn on Monday at the hotel in the town on the holiday island of Mallorca, which is famous for its lively parties and affordable alcohol.

The security guard discovered the young woman crying on the floor in the hotel's lobby around 5 am on Monday, 400 yards from Magaluf's party strip. She received immediate medical attention and counseling, and a medic found grip marks on her arms. The suspects, all over 20 years old, were detained shortly after the incident and were seen being escorted into the court building in Palma in handcuffs. The investigation includes inspecting the room where the assault occurred and reviewing CCTV footage of the hotel entrance. Police have also reported the existence of video clips of the alleged rape on at least one of the suspects' phones.

A judge has ordered the six men to be held in custody while the investigation continues. None of them have been formally charged yet, and their identities, as well as that of the alleged victim, have not been released. The BH Mallorca hotel, where the incident took place, has had a history of shocking incidents, including balcony falls and a major fire caused by British tourists. In 2018, two separate alleged sex attacks on British holidaymakers in Magaluf were also investigated.

This recent incident follows another case in which a British teenage boy was allegedly sexually assaulted by a taxi driver in Magaluf on August 11. The 17-year-old reported the assault to the police, stating that the driver began touching him and demanded a sex act before physically assaulting him when he tried to escape. In addition, earlier this month, a 21-year-old British woman claimed she was raped by an Israeli man and filmed without her consent by his friends in Athens. Other cases involving British tourists being raped or sexually assaulted have also been reported in Greece and Portugal.

These incidents highlight the ongoing issue of sexual assault and rape faced by tourists in popular holiday destinations. It is crucial for authorities to take immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of visitors, as well as to hold perpetrators accountable for their crimes.
