Kia EV5 electric SUV's unexpected debut

Kia's upcoming electric SUV, the Kia EV5, has made an early appearance in China before its official debut on August 25th. This follows the success of Kia's previous electric vehicle, the EV6, which impressed with its style, range, and performance, although it does come with a higher price tag, especially for the GT version.

The Kia EV5 was first previewed a few months ago with a concept, and it is now set to make its debut later this month. However, it seems that the vehicle has been revealed a bit earlier than planned. A photo of the EV5, sourced from information provided to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) for homologation purposes, shows that it closely resembles the concept, featuring actual door handles, the same wheel design (albeit smaller), actual door mirrors, and slightly different lights.

In terms of size, the EV5 is similar to the Sportage and is built on Kia's E-GMP Platform. It is equipped with a single electric motor at the front, delivering 215bhp and 229lb/ft of torque. The battery pack is expected to be an 82kWh BYD 'Blade' Lithium iron phosphate (LFE) battery pack. Additionally, an AWD model with an extra motor on the back is anticipated to be released in the future.

The Kia EV5 is scheduled to make its official debut in China on August 25th. Enthusiasts and electric vehicle enthusiasts alike are eagerly awaiting the unveiling of this new electric SUV from Kia.
