In a heart-stopping incident in northern Pakistan, local residents came together to rescue a child from a cable car, with all eight passengers eventually being saved. The incident occurred when one of the cables snapped while the chairlift was on its way to school in Battagram. The passengers, including six children between the ages of 10 and 15, were left hanging 1,200 meters above a ravine, fearing for their lives.
Initially, two children were rescued by helicopter before nightfall, but the air rescue had to be called off. Undeterred, the locals continued their efforts to rescue the remaining passengers. Using a makeshift chairlift, they managed to pull everyone to safety. The incredible moment of the child being hauled back to safety was captured in a shocking video clip.
Senator Sarfraz Bugti expressed his gratitude to Allah and commended the armed forces personnel, administration, and locals for their selflessness and determination in carrying out the complex rescue operation. The UK's high commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, also expressed relief that all those caught up in the incident were safely back on the ground and thanked everyone involved in the rescue efforts.
During the ordeal, one of the passengers, a 20-year-old named Gulfaraz, pleaded for help, highlighting the lack of drinking water in the chairlift. He also mentioned that a 16-year-old passenger with a heart condition had been unconscious for three hours. Despite these challenges, the collective efforts of the locals ensured that all eight passengers were successfully rescued.
