Mazda's commitment to affordable car models

Mazda Australia is committed to offering more affordable models alongside its push towards a more premium brand status. While the company has recently launched expensive new models, such as the Mazda CX-60 and CX-90 SUVs, it understands the importance of catering to buyers with budget constraints. The new "Mazda Premium" models aim to provide a different experience through technology, powertrain, driving dynamics, and luxury elements, while still maintaining a strong value proposition.

Mazda Australia's managing director, Vinesh Bhindi, clarified that the brand intends to remain a mainstream appeal brand in Australia. The introduction of the CX-60 and CX-90 models aims to offer more choices to customers who desire a slightly more premium experience. However, the company has no plans to abandon more attainable options, such as the top-selling Mazda CX-5 midsize SUV, which will receive a next-generation replacement model.

While some of Mazda's more affordable models, like the Mazda2 and CX-3, have been around for a while, the brand constantly updates and refreshes them. Mr. Bhindi could not confirm if there will be new-generation replacement models for these affordable options but assured that they will not be abandoned. Mazda Corporation's next priority is the scalable architecture, designed for BEV technology, which will encompass both small and big models.

Mazda Australia aims to bring all the products manufactured by Mazda to the Australian market, even if they are niche. While some models, like the CX-50, may not be available due to right-hand-drive constraints, the brand continues to explore possibilities. Currently, Mazda Australia offers 14 different models, with the affordable CX-3 light SUV leading in sales, accounting for almost one-fifth of new Mazdas sold so far in 2023.
