Mazda's commitment to affordable models

Mazda Australia is committed to offering more affordable models alongside its push towards a more premium brand status. While the company has recently launched expensive new models like the Mazda CX-60 and CX-90, there is an understanding that budget constraints need to be considered. According to Mazda Australia managing director, Vinesh Bhindi, the new "Mazda Premium" models are meant to provide something different in terms of technology, powertrain, and luxury elements, while still maintaining a strong value proposition.

Despite the focus on premium models, Mazda has no plans to abandon more attainable options for buyers. In fact, there will be a next-generation replacement model for the popular Mazda CX-5 midsize SUV. Mr. Bhindi confirmed that Mazda Corporation has already confirmed the development of the next-generation CX-5, which will offer size, packaging, and value proposition similar to its predecessor. The goal is to provide customers with more choices, including the CX-60, CX-8, CX-90, and eventually the CX-80.

While Mazda does have some aging models in its more affordable range, such as the Mazda2 and CX-3, the company constantly updates and refreshes these models. Mr. Bhindi could not confirm if there will be new-generation replacement models for these affordable options, but he emphasized that Mazda is committed to not abandoning them. The focus for Mazda Corporation is currently on the large product platform, but their next priority is the scalable architecture, which is designed for BEV technology.

Mazda Australia aims to bring all of Mazda Corporation's products to the Australian market, even if they are niche. While some models may not be available due to right-hand-drive constraints, Mazda Australia always works towards making them available to Australians. Currently, Mazda offers 14 different models in Australia, with the affordable CX-3 light SUV being the top seller. It accounts for nearly one-fifth of all new Mazdas sold in 2023, with Mazda Australia selling a total of 58,731 units by the end of July.
