New Tesla Model 3 Unveiled

The Tesla Model 3 has undergone various minor updates in the six years since its release. However, the new Project Highland update is expected to bring a comprehensive refresh to the popular mid-sized electric sedan.

One noticeable change is the smoother and cleaner front fascia, with the removal of the small fog light pods and the introduction of sleeker headlights. The front fenders and doors also feature a new strake around the turn signal area.

The rear of the Model 3 has also been updated, with a diffuser-like arrangement cutting into the bumper. The limited resolution of the photos prevents a clear understanding of the extent of the change, whether it involves aero tweaks or simply styling changes. The rear tails have also been redesigned with a more modern claw-like design.

In addition to the visible changes, the update aims to make broader changes to the car's fundamentals. Tesla intends to reduce component counts for cost savings while refreshing the car's external and interior appearance.

The updated WLTP range figures for the Model 3 show an improvement of approximately 12 percent compared to the current model. The rear-wheel-drive Model 3 with 18-inch wheels achieves 344 miles, while the Long Range model achieves an impressive 421 miles.

Inside the Model 3, the interior features aluminum and new fabric materials, along with a fresh ambient lighting system. Tesla has also improved the cabin's acoustics with new glass and soundproofing materials. Other changes include a new 8-inch rear display screen, new steering-mounted controls, and slimmer bezels on the main 15.4-inch infotainment screen.

Sources suggest that the Project Highland update will first go into production at Gigafactory Shanghai, with indications that manufacturing has already begun. Tesla's Fremont, California plant will likely produce the new facelift models as well. Deliveries are expected to begin in October for Europe and the Middle East, while availability for the U.S. market has yet to be announced.

A refresh for the Model 3 is necessary due to increasing competition in the EV sedan market. Tesla hopes that the update, combined with its aggressive pricing strategy, will help maintain strong sales.
