Nikola fuel cell truck goes into production with impressive range

Sustainable trucking company Nikola has officially started production of its hydrogen fuel cell electric truck, which is said to have a range of up to 500 miles. The announcement was made on X, formerly Twitter, with a photo showing Nikola employees working on the frame of the upcoming vehicle.

It is likely that the hydrogen fuel cell truck is a variant of the Nikola Tre, which is currently being sold as a battery-electric truck. Other hydrogen vehicles previously promoted by Nikola, such as the Nikola One and Nikola Two, have not been mentioned recently.

The start of production aligns with Nikola's earlier predictions that serial production of its hydrogen fuel cell trucks would begin in July. The truck is expected to have a maximum range of 500 miles, about 536 horsepower, and a fueling time of approximately 20 minutes.

Despite past challenges and controversies, such as those involving former CEO Trevor Milton, Nikola seems to be experiencing a steady recovery. The company has received orders for 140 hydrogen fuel cell trucks and recently announced a deal with J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. for the acquisition of 13 zero-emission Class 8 trucks, including three hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles.

With the start of production, customers can now contact a dealer to order their own Nikola hydrogen fuel cell electric truck.
