Racecar-inspired Prototype Sold for $22k

Track day enthusiasts often gravitate towards small manufacturers like Caterham, Radical, Dallara, BAC, Ariel, or Ginetta. However, in addition to the well-known brands, there are also custom-made vehicles that boast racecar aesthetics and track-focused setups. One such example is the prototype shown in the picture, which was meticulously crafted using Audi parts.

At first glance, this unnamed and unbranded vehicle exudes the unmistakable appearance of the Group C racecars from the '80s and '90s. It sits low and wide, featuring a sleek droplet-shaped canopy and a central driving position. The absence of mirrors and license plates indicates that this is a track-only machine, meaning it cannot be driven on public roads.

Distinctive design elements like the prominent splitter, wide shoulders, NACA-style air ducts, side exhausts, roof scoop, large rear wing, and wide rear tires all hint at the vehicle's track prowess. However, it remains unclear whether this build incorporates any motorsport DNA beneath its captivating exterior. The owner mentions the generous use of Audi parts, but unfortunately, no specific details are provided regarding the underlying mechanics or specifications. Judging by its appearance, it's possible that this model is based on a custom chassis rather than utilizing the architecture of a donor vehicle.

Regarding the powertrain, the prototype is equipped with a rear-mounted V6 engine sourced from the first-generation Audi A4. While the ideal choice for such a build would have been the bi-turbo 2.7-liter V6 from the original RS4, the vehicle is fitted with the 2.8-liter unit from a lesser variant. This particular engine produces up to 190 hp (193 PS / 142 kW), which is still quite respectable for a lightweight vehicle. Additionally, it can be easily tuned for even more power. Despite needing some "minor works," the owner assures that the prototype is in working condition.

This unique vehicle is currently located in Vásárosnamény, Hungary, and was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. It was recently shared in the Unique Cars For Sale 3.0 Group, with an asking price of €20,000 ($21,840). While this makes it more affordable compared to most track-day toys, it's worth noting that a used Mazda MX-5 could be purchased and modified for considerably less. Unfortunately, the listing is no longer available, suggesting that someone may have already purchased this one-of-a-kind prototype.
