Skoda Superb set to overshadow VW Passat

Skoda is preparing to unveil its all-new Superb on November 2nd. The car has been spotted testing multiple times, and we have even had the opportunity to drive a prototype version, which left us impressed. Unlike the new Passat, which is only available as an estate, Skoda will offer the Superb as both an estate and a hatchback, giving it a wider appeal. The Superb is expected to go on sale in early 2024, joining the recently unveiled second-generation Kodiaq SUV. It will share technology and design elements with its SUV sibling.

When it comes to the design, the exterior images of the Superb Estate show a more three-dimensional grille, thinner headlights with new-generation LED technology, and a new lower grille shape. The side view reveals a generous rear overhang, a sharp crease on the flanks, and a restrained bumper design. The rear light unit features a C-shaped design similar to that of the new Fabia, creating a dynamic light graphic for following traffic at night.

The hatchback version of the Superb will retain its overall proportion compared to the existing model, with a long and heavily raked rear screen. The clamshell bonnet helps balance out its silhouette, just like in the previous model. Inside, there are significant changes, with a larger 13-inch infotainment display, a fully digital 10-inch instrument cluster, and ambient lighting. Skoda has also introduced physical knobs called Skoda Smart Dials to control various interior functions. The gear selector has been relocated to the steering column, creating extra storage space on the center console. The dashboard design integrates air vents and features sustainable materials. The car still retains Skoda's existing 'Simply Clever' features, such as hidden umbrellas in the door panels.

The new Superb is built on a revised version of the MQB evo platform and features a slightly increased length and wheelbase, providing even more space in the interior. The boot space in the Superb Estate has also increased from 660 to 690 liters. In terms of powertrains, there will be no pure-electric Superb in this generation. Instead, it will offer the VW Group's latest generation of combustion engines. Diesel options include a 2.0-liter engine with either 148bhp or 192bhp. Petrol options include a mild-hybrid 1.5-liter TSI with 148bhp, a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine with either 204bhp or 265bhp, and a plug-in hybrid version with a 1.5-liter TSI petrol engine and a 25.7kWh battery, offering a pure-electric range of over 62 miles.

Overall, the new Skoda Superb promises to be an impressive and versatile car, combining advanced technology, stylish design, and spaciousness.
