Stricter MOT tester protocols announced by DVSA

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has introduced new training measures for MOT testers who do not complete their annual training within the designated year. Currently, testers who fail to complete the training are required to undergo a demonstration test with the DVSA and complete the training for that year.

Starting from January, however, MOT testers will be required to complete a DBS check, a DVSA demonstration, and the current year's training. The DBS check must be uploaded to the MOT admin hub and be available during the DVSA demonstration.

Stuart James, the chief executive of the Independent Garage Association (IGA), emphasized the importance of MOT testers staying up to date with their training. Failing to meet these requirements and facing challenges with the DBS check could potentially affect their eligibility to continue working as MOT testers. The DVSA's commitment to maintaining industry standards is evident, and it is hoped that all testers will embrace this opportunity to provide a high-quality service to the public.

The IGA, as the leading trade association in the UK's independent automotive sector, remains dedicated to supporting MOT centers across the industry. They are committed to assisting with all training needs in the independent sector.
