Swedish electric vehicle manufacturers target intelligent driving in China
【Summary】Swedish EV makers, including Polestar, are targeting the Chinese market by incorporating Mobileye's autonomous driving technology into their vehicles. This partnership aims to tap into China's growing premium EV car market, while Chinese automakers are also expanding their presence in Northern European countries.
In recent years, there has been a growing focus among Swedish electric vehicle makers on China's premium EV car market. Similarly, Chinese automobile makers like Hongqi have chosen Sweden, Norway, and other Northern European countries as their first destinations to establish R&D facilities and promote their new electric vehicle brands in the European markets.
At the 26th edition of the Chengdu Motor Show, Swedish premium electric vehicle maker Polestar announced a partnership with Mobileye. This collaboration aims to incorporate Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology into the Polestar 4, a pure electric high-performance SUV.
The Chengdu Motor Show is the largest annual auto show in western China, and it took place on August 25, 2023. During this event, Polestar showcased its Polestar 4 and Polestar 3, which is an ultra-luxury pure electric SUV. The Polestar 4, being the first production car to feature Mobileye's Chauffeur autonomous driving technology, sets the foundation for this advanced technology by integrating a Mobileye SuperVision-based ADAS from the beginning.
Mobileye is a leading producer of advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) technology, already installed in more than 150 million cars worldwide. Their Chauffeur technology, expected to be launched in the near future, will enable hands-free, point-to-point autonomous driving on highways, along with eyes-on automated driving in various environments.
