Toyota suspends operations at six plants in central Japan

Toyota Motor Corp. has announced that it has stopped 10 production lines at six factories in central Japan due to difficulties in procuring springs. The halt in production comes after an explosion occurred at one of Toyota's suppliers, Chuo Spring Co., on Monday afternoon in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture.

As a result of the explosion, part of Chuo Spring's facility, including its drying furnace, was damaged. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. Two male workers were injured in the explosion, with one being taken to the hospital for treatment.

Toyota has not provided an estimate on when operations will be able to resume on the affected production lines. The automaker has a total of 14 assembly factories across Japan, which produce cars for both domestic and overseas markets.

Among the affected production lines are those responsible for assembling the popular Land Cruiser and RAV4 sport utility vehicles. The temporary halt in production will likely have an impact on Toyota's overall manufacturing output.
