【Summary】Toyota has released a teaser image for a new midsize all-wheel-drive hybrid SUV, set to be unveiled at the LA Auto Show in November. The SUV, which is referred to as an SUV rather than a crossover, is expected to be a body-on-frame model that could potentially be a competitor to the Ford Bronco Sport. It will be part of Toyota's electrified vehicle lineup, including hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell options. Two more teasers are expected before the vehicle's official unveiling.

Toyota Teases Hybrid SUV

Toyota has released a new teaser image for an upcoming midsize all-wheel-drive hybrid SUV. The caption accompanying the image boldly states that this vehicle goes beyond expectations, emphasizing the word "beyond." This suggests that Toyota is aiming to deliver something unique with this SUV.

Unlike the previous teaser image, which only hinted at the front lights, this new image provides more clues about the SUV's design. The presence of HEV AWD badges on the tailgate indicates that this vehicle is distinct from car-based crossovers. Additionally, a visible "C" above the license plate pocket suggests a possible connection to the Camry family. However, the SUV's midsize designation places it among the Rav4, Venza, and Highlander in terms of size.

Given that Toyota refers to this vehicle as an SUV, speculation arises about whether it could be a replacement for the long-running 4Runner. However, the lack of a "C" in the 4Runner's name suggests otherwise. Furthermore, Toyota has plans for a Compact Cruiser, which is smaller and all-electric, not hybrid.

The emphasis on the word "beyond" in the caption aligns with Toyota's bZ4X concept, which represents their commitment to electrification across various vehicle types. As a hybrid, this midsize SUV fits within this vision.

Considering that Toyota describes this vehicle as all-wheel-drive rather than four-wheel-drive, it is unlikely to be a direct competitor to the Wrangler or Bronco. Instead, it may belong to the Crown family and offer rugged off-road capabilities akin to the Ford Bronco Sport, but on a larger scale. This positioning would allow it to differentiate itself from the Rav4 and Venza while not being as hardcore as the 4Runner.

Toyota is expected to release two more teasers before unveiling this midsize all-wheel-drive hybrid SUV at the LA Auto Show in mid-November.
