Toyota's Potential Production Plans for FT-Se Sports Car Concept in 2027
【Summary】Toyota's FT-Se sports car concept may go into production in 2027. It is expected to feature Toyota's next-generation liquid-electrolyte batteries with a range of up to 500 miles and a 20% reduction in production costs compared to the Toyota bZ4X. Toyota CEO expressed the desire for more sports cars in the company's lineup, and the FT-Se appears to be the closest to being production-ready.
The LF-ZC's expected arrival in 2026 indicates that it will utilize Toyota's next-generation liquid-electrolyte batteries, which offer an impressive range of up to 500 miles. These batteries are not only lighter but also expected to reduce production costs by 20% compared to the battery used in the Toyota bZ4X. This makes them an ideal fit for the FT-Se, a small sports car that prioritizes keeping its mass down.
There are several other indications that the FT-Se is heading towards production. Earlier this year, Toyota CEO Koji Sato expressed his desire to expand the company's lineup of GR-badged sports cars, which already includes popular models like the GR86 and GR Supra. He even mentioned the possibility of accelerating the development of the Gazoo brand.
Among the various Toyota concepts, including the FT-3e and Land Cruiser Se, it is the FT-Se that appears to be closest to being production-ready. Its exterior design looks well-refined, and although the cabin may undergo some modifications before reaching production, there is no doubt that the car would generate significant interest if it were to appear in showrooms in its current form.
