Tesla is set to release its latest offering, the Universal Wall Connector, in October 2023. Priced at $785 in Canada ($595 USD), this charging solution is designed for both Tesla and non-Tesla electric vehicles. It is expected to become a popular choice for owners of electric vehicles.

The Universal Wall Connector is not only suitable for individual vehicle owners but also for apartments, hotels, and offices. It provides a versatile charging solution for both Tesla and any electric vehicle in North America, as reported by Tesla North.

Key features of the Universal Wall Connector include an 11.5 kW / 48 amp output, which can add up to 44 miles of range in just an hour. It also integrates a J1772 adapter, ensuring compatibility with various electric vehicles. The connector features an auto-sensing handle tailored for Tesla charge ports and allows users to oversee and adjust their charging activities through the Tesla app. With Wi-Fi connectivity, it facilitates over-the-air updates, diagnostics, and access controls.

The Universal Wall Connector is suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations, with variable amperage options to cater to different installation sites. It also allows power sharing among six Wall Connectors simultaneously and comes with a 24-foot cable for extended reach. Residential installations are covered by a four-year warranty.

This connector is essentially Tesla's Wall Connector with a built-in J1772 adapter. Notably, the J1772 adapter can only be released when the unit is powered on, preventing theft of the adapter by passersby.

Tesla emphasizes the importance of professional installation and provides a directory of over 1,000 certified installers for user convenience. On the commercial front, Tesla invites property managers and developers to join the Charging Partners network and incorporate the Wall Connector into their facilities. This allows businesses to provide rapid EV charging, attracting and retaining clientele. These installations also offer the advantage of pay-per-use systems and continuous remote monitoring.

For those considering the Universal Wall Connector, it is worth noting that Tesla's regular Wall Connector, designed solely for Tesla vehicles, costs $650. For an additional $135, users can have the J1772 adapter built-in to one charging unit for their home or business.

As a side note, Tesla plans to introduce enhanced features for the Tesla app later this year. In other news, the company recently unveiled a new Model S and Model X Standard Range with lower costs in Canada. Additionally, electric vehicle manufacturer Fisker announced its adoption of Tesla's North American Charging Standard.
