United Auto Workers (UAW) members were seen picketing outside the Stellantis Toledo Assembly Complex in Toledo, Ohio on Monday, September 18. The negotiations between Stellantis and the UAW resumed on the same day. Stellantis announced that its latest economic offer included several benefits for hourly employees, such as cumulative raises of nearly 21%, inflation protection, a reduction in tiers from eight years to four, and $1 billion in retirement funding.

Initially, the UAW demanded an immediate 20% raise, followed by four additional raises of 5% each. This would result in a total hourly pay increase of 46% over the four-year contract period. CNN has reached out to the UAW for their comment on the negotiations.

Stellantis described the discussions as "constructive" and focused on finding common ground that would help the carmaker navigate the challenges of electrification. The company also mentioned that establishing a framework in this contract would be crucial for addressing the future of the Belvidere plant in Illinois, which was idled due to increasing costs in the electric vehicle market.

"Together with the UAW, we have the opportunity to establish a framework in this contract that will allow the Company to be competitive during this historic transformation and bring our workforce along on this journey," Stellantis stated.
