Cayenne Turbo

The all-new Porsche Cayenne has arrived in the UK, boasting a larger and more efficient design. Despite having a longer wheelbase, the car appears smaller due to its taut body and sharper front end. As Porsche's best-selling SUV, the Cayenne brings in the revenue needed to create limited-run specials like the GT2 RS. The top-spec Turbo model, which we had the opportunity to drive, is the fastest 4x4 in the world.

The Cayenne Turbo may seem expensive, excessively fast, and irrelevant to most buyers, but it offers extraordinary features. In addition to the benefits of a full-size 4x4, such as a comfortable ride, elevated seating position, and ample space in the back, the Turbo also impresses with its performance. It can match the speed of a 911 Carrera 4S in a straight line and is nearly as quick through corners, despite weighing 2.1 tonnes. The car has also undergone a styling overhaul, both inside and out.

Inside the Cayenne, drivers will find a Panamera-style rising center console, giving the impression of sitting in an aircraft cockpit. The build quality is exceptional, with sturdy metal and stitched leather covering most surfaces. The car weighs 185kg less than its predecessor and features stop-start technology as standard on models equipped with the new eight-speed Tiptronic auto, resulting in a 31% improvement in fuel economy and a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The 4.8-liter twin-turbo engine still delivers 493bhp, allowing the Cayenne Turbo to accelerate from 0-62mph in 4.7 seconds. The car's superb auto transmission ensures instant response, accompanied by a muted gargle from the quad exhausts. Despite its speed, the Cayenne remains composed and easy to drive at any speed, thanks to its well-insulated interior and precise steering. The optional carbon ceramic discs provide excellent braking performance.

The Cayenne defies expectations in terms of handling, with minimal body roll and exceptional cornering ability. Porsche's Dynamic Chassis control, three-mode PASM suspension, and Torque Vectoring Plus contribute to the car's impressive performance. It can be likened to a sports car on stilts. While the Range Rover may offer ultimate luxury and comfort, it cannot match the Cayenne's performance, especially in rough terrain.
