Maeving RM1S: The Future of 65mph

If you were hesitant about the Maeving RM1's top speed of 45mph, then you might be interested in the new RM1S version. This upgraded model features a more powerful hub motor, producing 14.1bhp compared to the standard RM1's 5.9bhp. As a result, the minimum age requirement to ride it has been increased from 16 to 17, but it still falls within the limits for those with L-plates after completing a CBT.

The increased power has a significant impact on performance, with the RM1S now capable of reaching a top speed of 65mph, making it a much more versatile machine than before. However, the range remains the same at 80 miles. To compensate for the higher power output, Maeving has equipped the bike with 30% larger battery packs.

The bike can be operated with just one of the two packs, effectively halving the range to 40 miles. The batteries can be charged either on the bike or removed and charged elsewhere using the optional battery dock. Charging both packs from empty to 80% takes approximately 3.5 hours, while reaching 100% takes around 4.5 hours.

Maeving developed the RM1S in response to customer feedback requesting more power and speed. The design of the bike has largely remained the same, featuring a long wheelbase, wire wheels, and a bobber-style seat. However, the central housings for the batteries have been slightly enlarged, and a more robust front brake has been added, consisting of a 300mm disc and a three-piston caliper. Additionally, four new special edition liveries have been introduced for the RM1S.

Co-founder Will Stirrup expressed the following about the new bike: "The RM1S is the motorcycle we've been repeatedly asked to create by riders who desire a zero-emissions bike that retains the RM1's appearance but is capable of highway speeds. We've put in tremendous effort to ensure that all the features that made the RM1 popular with our customers have been carried over to the new RM1S, while delivering enhanced performance for a wider range of use cases. The original Maeving RM1 has been a tremendous success, and for many riders who primarily travel within city limits, it will remain the perfect motorcycle. By adding the RM1S to our collection, we are providing an electric motorcycle for those who need to cover larger areas at higher speeds."

The RM1S is priced at £7,495, compared to the RM1's price of £5,999. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in March 2024.
