Cheaper Electric SUV to Compete with MG4
【Summary】Smart is introducing a more affordable 'Pro' variant of its electric SUV, the Smart #1, to compete with the MG4. The Pro trim level, already available in Germany, is expected to be priced around £32,000 in the UK. It features a smaller 47kWh battery with a 192-mile range and a charging speed of 130kW. The new Smart #1 Pro is set to be released in the UK market in spring 2024.
Smart is planning to introduce a more affordable variant of its all-electric small SUV, the Smart #1. The new variant, called the Pro trim level, is already available in Germany and will be coming to the UK. Although the pricing for the Pro trim level in the UK has not been announced, it is expected to be priced similarly to undercut the current cheapest Smart in the range, the #1 Pro+.
The Smart #1 is the first car developed by Smart under Daimler-Geely ownership and signifies the brand's shift towards becoming an all-electric car maker. While there were previous all-electric Smarts with the EQ ForTwo and EQ ForFour, the #1 represents a new era for the brand.
The Smart #1 is currently available in four trim levels. The Pro+ is the base model, followed by the Premium trim level, which adds larger wheels and a panoramic roof for a price of £38,950. The Launch Edition, limited to 100 examples in the UK, features a bespoke paint finish and is priced at £39,450. At the top of the range is the performance-focused Brabus, starting at £43,450.
All Smart #1 models come with a 62kWh battery, except for the dual-motor Brabus variant. The Pro trim level, however, features a smaller 47kWh battery, resulting in a maximum range of 192 miles. The charging speed is also slightly reduced, from 150kW to 130kW, although Smart claims that it still only takes under 30 minutes for a full recharge.
The Smart #1 Pro is expected to be available in the UK market in spring 2024. In the meantime, if you're interested in electric SUVs, be sure to check out the best electric SUVs currently on sale.
