China's JAC Develops Tesla Semi Rival

The all-electric Tesla Semi has caught the attention of a Chinese manufacturer, who seems to have developed a similar truck that could soon go into production. Photos of the truck were taken at a facility owned by JAC Motors, a company that builds passenger cars and has a joint venture with VW.

The prototype of the Chinese truck bears a striking resemblance to the Tesla Semi, starting with the overall shape of the cab. The dimensions and design of the windshield, A-pillars, and side windows are very similar. The camouflage on the pillars makes them more noticeable, but if they were finished in black like on the Tesla Semi, they would be harder to see.

The headlights on the JAC prototype are positioned in almost the same spot as on the Tesla Semi, just ahead of the front wheel arches. The front end angle is also very similar. One noticeable difference is that the JAC prototype has either a window or a solar panel just above the windshield, which the Tesla Semi lacks. The JAC prototype also features digital wing mirrors, while the road-going Tesla Semi has traditional mirrors (although the original concept had digital mirrors).

The cabin of the JAC prototype is similar to the Tesla Semi as well. Only one image of the interior has been shared, but it shows a centrally-mounted seat, just like the Semi. The cabin also appears to have two large screens on either side of the steering wheel, mirroring the Tesla's design.
