Electric HiAce Unveiled Ahead of Tokyo Motor Show
【Summary】Toyota has unveiled an all-electric concept version of its popular HiAce ahead of the Tokyo Motor Show. There are rumors that a BEV HiAce could become a reality by 2025, but no official information has been released. Renderings of the electric vehicle show a similar design to the current HiAce, with some interior and dimension differences. The electric HiAce will be displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show.
Toyota's HiAce is one of the best-selling models within the company's lineup. In line with their goal of an all-electric future, Toyota has introduced an all-electric concept version of the popular HiAce.
In Toyota's light commercial vehicle segment, the Hilux and the HiAce compete for the top spot in terms of sales figures. Typically, the Hilux comes out on top. In September 2023, Toyota reportedly sold over 1,421 units of the HiAce, each with a price tag of R722,300.
The official debut of the electric HiAce will occur at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. Reports and rumors suggest that a battery electric vehicle (BEV) version of the HiAce could become a reality by 2025. It may be based on Toyota's e-TNGA platform and powered by a front-axle mounted electric motor. However, this information is speculative as Toyota has not released any official details.
Renderings of the electric HiAce have emerged, showing a similar design to the current H300-generation HiAce. The front end features slim headlights and an attractive front fascia. Inside, the cabin boasts a large center console, a digital driver display, and a rotary-dial gear selector. Notable differences from the current HiAce include a flat floor that can accommodate objects up to 3.5 meters long and the absence of a front passenger seat. The concept is slightly larger than the real-world variant, measuring 5,280 mm in length with a 3,210 mm wheelbase. The interior is 1,715 mm wide and 1,270 mm tall, while the concept stands at 1,990 mm tall.
Toyota's electric HiAce will be showcased at the company's main booth during the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, starting on October 25th.
