JLR's eco-friendly truck fleet coming to the UK

JLR (formerly Jaguar Land Rover) has announced plans to introduce a new fleet of bio-fuelled lorries in the UK by April 2024. The goal is to significantly reduce the company's carbon emissions from road freight.

The new fleet will consist of 220 more sustainable HGVs, with 219 running on biofuels and one being battery-electric. JLR estimates that this switch will result in an 84% reduction in its road-freight CO2 output, amounting to a reduction of 8433 tonnes.

The bio-fuelled HGVs will use a combination of bio-CNG (compressed natural gas) and hydrogenated vegetable oil. This combination will bring a minimum CO2 saving of 85% per lorry. Additionally, the hydrogenated vegetable oil will be used to reduce emissions from existing lorries.

Alongside the transition to new fuels, JLR will also be implementing a change in vehicle size. The company plans to switch to using 15.6-metre lorries, which will further contribute to reducing carbon emissions from its road freight operations.
