Keith Richards' Vintage Ferrari Goes Up For Auction
【Summary】Keith Richards' 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT Scaglietti, which he used during the Rolling Stones' European tours, is up for auction. The car has accumulated over 25,000 miles and features period-correct modifications. After being sold to a private collection in Japan, it returned to Europe in 2014 and underwent a restoration in 2015.
The story behind this remarkable car is just as captivating as the vehicle itself. In 1972, Keith Richards acquired this Ferrari while in California, and it quickly became his trusted companion during the Rolling Stones' European tours. Despite his rock 'n' roll lifestyle, Richards managed to accumulate an impressive 25,000 miles with this car.
This particular Ferrari is finished with an elegant Argento Metallizzato exterior and features Nero Connolly leather on the interior. The classic charm is further enhanced with Veglia Borletti instrumentation in miles, giving it a timeless appeal. Additionally, the car boasts several period-correct modifications, such as a Momo Prototipo steering wheel and a Blaupunkt radio.
In 1986, Richards decided to part ways with his beloved Ferrari and sold it to a private collection in Japan. However, the car made a triumphant return to Europe in 2014 when it found a new owner in Liam Howlett, the co-founder of the EDM band The Prodigy. Under Howlett's care, the car underwent an extensive restoration in 2015. The V6 engine was meticulously rebuilt by specialist Joe Macari Performance Cars of London, and the exterior received a refreshing makeover.
