Kia's upcoming electric vehicle lineup revealed

Next week, Kia will debut two new electric vehicles at its EV Day event in Korea. One of the vehicles will be a sporty-looking electric sedan, while the other will be an electric crossover.

Kia's EV Day in Yeoju, Korea, will showcase the automaker's global electric vehicle vision. The event will feature the unveiling of "three new small to medium electric models." This will be the beginning of an annual tradition for Kia to showcase new EVs, concepts, and technology.

During the event, Kia will provide a detailed overview of its entire EV lineup. From the promotional images released, it is evident that there are five electric models. The EV6 sedan can be identified by its headlights on the far left, the brand's flagship EV9 is on the far right, and the model in the front is believed to be the new Kia EV5.

Kia previously introduced the EV5 at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. This electric SUV is expected to compete with Tesla's Model Y in China, with a starting price of approximately $22,000. Detailed specifications of the EV5 will be revealed at the EV Day event.

In addition to the three models mentioned, there are two more new EV models that will be unveiled. One of these models is a sporty electric sedan, while the other is a compact crossover that will sit below the EV5.

Recently, a camouflaged entry-level subcompact electric crossover, possibly the EV3 or EV4, was spotted testing in the US. The design of this vehicle is influenced by the EV9 but in a smaller package. Despite the heavy camouflage, the stacked LED headlights of the new EV can be seen. Rumors suggest that the compact crossover will have a starting price of around $30,000 to $40,000 and could serve as the dedicated electric successor to Kia's Soul.

The interior of these new models is expected to feature Kia's digital cockpit with dual screens, similar to the EV5. While little is known about the electric sedan, Kia has stated that it will have coverage in all major segments.

The EV3 or EV4 is rumored to be built on Hyundai's new Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA), which will support 13 new dedicated EVs from Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis.

Kia has ambitious goals for its electric vehicles, aiming to sell 1.6 million EVs annually by 2030 and introducing 15 new electric models by 2027. The company has undergone a full-scale transformation since 2021, including a new logo, product, and design strategy. This transformation has resulted in continuous year-over-year sales growth in the US, with Kia achieving its best third quarter ever.

More information about Kia's new electric models will be revealed at the EV Day event on October 12. Stay tuned for updates.
