Lamborghini's First Electric Vehicle: The Four-Seat Lanzador GT Concept
【Summary】Lamborghini has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the Lanzador GT concept. Scheduled to launch in five years, the four-seat GT aims to bridge the gap between the Urus SUV and the company's traditional supercars. The concept showcases Lamborghini's commitment to offering "best-in-class sportiveness and fun-to-drive character" while also serving as a "laboratory on wheels" for new technology and manufacturing methods.
The long-awaited electric Lamborghini has finally arrived, marking another milestone for the supercar manufacturer. After the successful launch of the Urus SUV five years ago, Lamborghini is now venturing into a new segment with the introduction of the Lanzador, a stunning four-seat GT.
Unveiled as a concept at Monterey Car Week in California, the Lanzador is set to be released in five years. This sleek two-row supercar has a similar size to the Porsche Taycan but sits higher from the ground, aiming for improved versatility.
The Lanzador serves as a bridge between the Urus and Lamborghini's traditional mid-engined supercars. It embodies the company's vision for its next model line, promising exceptional sportiness and a fun-to-drive character that stays true to Lamborghini's DNA.
More than just a show car, the Lanzador is a "laboratory on wheels" that showcases the technology and manufacturing methods that will be used in production. This confirms Lamborghini's commitment to an electric future, which was first hinted at with the Terzo Millennio hypercar in 2017.
CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed the development of an electric Lamborghini in 2021, and the Lanzador provides a glimpse into what this future holds. When asked why the concept is being revealed so early, Winkelmann explained that it allows Lamborghini to prepare the market and gather feedback, ensuring that the production car will be well-received.
Over the next five years, Lamborghini will use this time to seek opinions and develop unique characteristics for their electric vehicles. This buffer zone will be crucial in carving out a distinctive identity for Lamborghini's EV lineup.
