Nikola recalls delivered trucks for fire risk
【Summary】Nikola recalls all 209 electric trucks due to fire risk caused by coolant leak in battery packs. No injuries reported. Investigation ongoing.
Nikola Corp. announced on Friday that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales. This decision comes after an investigation into recent fires revealed a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause.
According to a spokesperson for Nikola, there are a total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks in the marketplace, including those with dealers and customers. The company is now recalling all of these vehicles and is in the process of contacting all parties involved.
The preliminary findings of the investigation were confirmed on Thursday when a "minor thermal incident" occurred on one of the battery packs in a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In a statement, Nikola mentioned that foul play or external factors were unlikely to have caused the incident. The company is actively working on providing a solution to this issue.
The investigation was initially launched in June after trucks at the company's headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, caught fire. One of the damaged trucks, which was being kept at the site for monitoring purposes, re-ignited last month.
